Trying a car has never been easier – lots of car brands now offer subscription services on a monthly basis, with no down payment or exit fee so you can swap in and out of different models with minimal notice. Or you can lock in for longer, on a leasing deal, which still means you just pay a monthly amount and hand the car back at the end of the deal. Additionally, some brands provide 24-hour test drives for a chance to get to know the car before you commit.
Then there’s the Buy choice, whether it’s paying for the car in one hit or signing up to a fixed term finance deal with the option to buy the car at the end. These are cars that make good long-term sense. And finally our fave section, for dreamers everywhere. The new luxe stuff, the wishlist option or the treat yourself splurge, depending on how big that imagined windfall might be. Enjoy this month’s offerings!

Try

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer
The all-electric Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is a great family car with acres of space, plenty of tech and a range of up to 400 miles allowing you to wave goodbye to range anxiety. We are currently putting one through its paces on long-term test and with Volkswagen’s ID. Promise you could find out what an electric car is like to live with, too. From 3 November until 31 March 2026, the ID. Promise allows private buyers who purchase an ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, or ID.7 Tourer the option to hand the car back within 100 days if it doesn't fit into their lifestyle, giving you peace of mind about going electric. However, it is worth noting any refunds will have a usage charge deducted and any damage or modifications made to the car will incur additional charges.

Buy

Citroën ë-C5 Aircross
Citroën’s flagship is roomy, comfortable and great value, offering something for everyone with a choice of hybrid engines and fully electric options. The all-electric ë-C5 Aircross is our pick to buy this month as it now qualifies for the government’s Electric Car Grant which helps to make it more affordable. This grant reduces the price of the Comfort Range models by £1,500, while the Long Range gets the maximum £3,750 discount (check out the complete list of eligible electric cars here). The ë-C5 Aircross should prove very cost effective to run if you can charge at home and design elements like the distinctive protruding rear lights will add a touch of Gallic flair to your driveway.

Dream

Volvo ES90
Volvo’s latest EV offers Scandi chic wrapped up in a saloon-like crossover. It’s large, imposing and fast, too, with headline stats to make a Porsche 911 quake in its boots. Yet rather than delivering loud and lairy thrills, the Volvo ES90 swaddles you in recycled materials and provides smooth instant power in almost complete silence. As a sleeker alternative to the more practical EX90 SUV or the more avant-garde Polestar 3, the ES90 is all about quiet, understated luxury – a vibe we are dreaming about it this month as the dark nights draw in. We wouldn’t mind test driving one on the sun-bleached roads of Monte Carlo, which is exactly what Rory Reid got to do in this video.
