Following the launch of the new government Electric Car Grant (ECG) many brands have responded by offering their own discounts alongside compelling finance deals and other incentives. While the list of vehicles approved for the official scheme continues to grow there are currently many more manufacturer-funded discounts on offer.

Leapmotor
Leapmotor was the first manufacturer to announce its own “Leap-Grant”. This provides a £3,750 discount off the C10 family-size SUV giving it a starting price of £32,750. Leapmotor is also discounting the compact T03 city car by £1,500 making the Dacia Spring rival one of the cheapest electric cars you can buy. Finally, the B10 crossover completes Leapmotor's line-up and it, too, gets £1,500 off. To make these offers even more appealing Leapmotor is also providing some very compelling PCP finance deals for private customers.

MG
MG has also responded by announcing a self-funded £1,500 ‘grant’ towards the price of any privately purchased MG4, MGS5 and MGS6 models effective immediately. While a little short of the full £3,750 at this stage MG says it applies on top of any other deal or discount, and will hopefully convince some of those wavering buyers to commit.

GWM
Meanwhile, GWM has shared it will be offering its own 'Green Grant' which provides a £3,750 discount on the ORA 03 – the model formerly known as the Funky Cat. Private buyers will be able to take advantage of this initiative across the whole ORA 03 range immediately.

Alfa Romeo
It's not just Chinese brands getting in on the action. Alfa Romeo has confirmed it will be subsidising its own 'grant' by offering £1,500 off the entire Junior Elettrica range including the sporty Veloce version with 280 horsepower. The discount can also be combined with other incentives including a free home changer and PCP finance deals. Alternatively, Alfa Romeo is offering the Junior Elettrica Speciale with a new ‘Flex & Free’ Personal Contract Hire lease agreement. This allows you to try the electric lifestyle on for size and if it doesn’t quite fit you can either give the car back or swap it for another model after six months. The deal also includes a home charger, roadside assistance and a service plan.

Skywell
Following the initial flurry of manufacturer offers, Skywell announced its own ‘EV Switch Incentive’. As a result, private buyers can get a £3,750 discount applied to both the standard and the long-range version of the Skywell BE11 registered before 30 December 2025. This is in addition to the existing offer of a £6,000 deposit contribution which brings the starting price of the BE11 down from £36,995 to £27,245. According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) just 27 Skywells had been registered this year as of the end of November. Given the fierce competition from well-known rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Renault Scenic E-Tech, Skywell will be hoping this incentive will help its family-size electric SUV to stand out from the crowd.

Smart
Smart is offering its own incentives and it has decided to cut the price of both the #1 and #3 by £1,500. This ‘Smart EV Car Grant’ works in conjunction with existing offers and applied to vehicles registered by 31 December 2025. Like many other manufacturers, these offers are enhanced by compelling finance deals to help reduce monthly payments.

Honda
The Honda E won our hearts back in 2020, but its tiny range and chunky asking price meant it didn't stick around for long. Now, Honda has had another go at making an electric car with the e:NY1 crossover. The e:NY1 has already been on sale for a little while and to make it more appealing Honda is offering a £3,750 'Honda EV Grant' for customers who order between 1 December 2025 and 28 February 2026 with cars registered by 31 March 2026. Additionally, Honda is providing substantial deposit contributions for those who purchase using finance.

Fiat
Fiat has announced the return of its ‘E-Grant’ which offers a £1,500 saving on the 500e and 600e and Grande Panda Electric for private buyers who order their car by the end of 2025. This discount also applies to the sportier Abarth 500e and Abarth 600e, plus it can be combined with existing finance deals. Fiat originally introduced the ‘E-Grant’ in 2023 when the government ended its plug-in car grant. The offer was intended to help make electric cars more affordable and now it is back while we wait for more cars to be eligible for the government’s new scheme.

BYD
BYD is not offering any discounts on its cars. However, it has responded to the new government scheme by providing up to five years of free servicing for the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin and Atto 3 models. This will apply to both new cars and approved used vehicle purchased from a BYD retailer before the end of the year. BYD has also changed the terms of its battery warranty for all new and used electric and hybrid models, so you are covered for eight years and 155,342 miles.

Suzuki
Suzuki is self-funding a discount of £3,750 – the equivalent of the maximum government grant – across the e Vitara range. This bring the e Vitara’s starting price down to £26,249. The offer will be available until the end of the year, and buyers will also receive a free home charger if they order their car during this period. For extra reassurance Suzuki is offering up to 10 years of warranty on the e Vitara and the battery is protected by a separate cover for 10 years.

Dacia
The Dacia Spring has had a recent upgrade gaining considerably more power, faster acceleration and a new battery. However, rather than increasing the price, Dacia is now offering the Spring at a £3,750 discount to mirror the maximum government grant. This makes the Spring even cheaper than Leapmotor's all-electric T03 and Dacia's own budget-friendly Sandero petrol hatchback.

More offers
In addition to these incentives there are, of course, all the models eligible for the government's official scheme, and plenty more bargains to be found on Autotrader.
To meet this year’s ZEV mandate target, car makers need 28 per cent of their sales to be electric which is why we are seeing such heavy discounting on new EVs. Due to the constraints of the government’s new grant, we expect manufacturers to adjust the pricing of some of their cars to fall within the criteria. This can only be good news for buyers who will in effect receive an even larger discount, helping to make to switch to an EV more affordable. Back to top
