What’s changed with the new 750S?
With approximately one-third of its components either new or modified, the McLaren 750S offers a substantial evolution from its predecessor, but the powertrain remains the highlight. The 4.0-litre turbo V8 engine has had a four percent power increase over the outgoing 720S, now boasting 750 horsepower and 800Nm of torque.
McLaren achieved this power boost through a combination of ECU tuning, a new fuel pump, higher turbo boost pressure, and a redesigned triple-layer head gasket. Acceleration is jaw-dropping, reaching 0 to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and the mid-range acceleration is notably improved, clocking in at 7.2 seconds to 124 mph. The exterior changes are subtle but effective, with a smoother front design, body-coloured front bumper, and slightly smaller skull-shaped headlights. The rear features an all-new centre-exit exhaust and a larger wing, inspired by the McLaren P1 and 765 LT. There’s also a recalibrated seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which includes a unique Ignition cut feature for an engaging upshift experience. Inside, the McLaren 750S boasts a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and a Bowers & Wilkins stereo system. But what does this all add up to? Is the McLaren 750S a worthwhile upgrade?
