  • Popular city car reimagined for 2020
  • Bolder styling and more interior space
  • Impressive connectivity and safety kit
The big news on Hyundai’s stand at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show is undoubtedly the arrival of the new i10 city car.

The new car is lower and wider than its hugely popular predecessor, and to our eyes, features more characterful and aggressive styling.

There are 10 exterior colours to choose from, and with the option of a contrasting roof in either black or red, there are 22 exterior colour combinations to choose from overall. Inside, meanwhile, you get a choice of four colour combinations.

The i10 comes with either four-or five seats, and a longer wheelbase means more interior legroom. The boot capacity figure is given at 252 litres, which is very competitive for the class.
Like with all new cars, connectivity is a hugely important theme for the new i10, and to that end, it comes with an 8.0-inch colour touchscreen, that supports Apple Carplay, Android Auto and wireless phone charging. Hyundai’s connected car platform is also available as an option, which allows a range of functionality. For example, you can search for points of interest on your phone and send the results directly to your car’s navigation system. You also have fuel station and parking space search functions, which feature live information on prices and availability.

Safety is another big theme with the i10, and its automatic emergency braking system can now detect pedestrians as well as other cars. You also get automatic high-beam headlamps, lane-keep assist, driver attention warning and intelligent speed limit warnings.

Two petrol engines will be available at launch, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder with 67 horsepower and a four-cylinder 1.2 with 84 horsepower. Both are available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual that works pretty much like an automatic.

Efficiency figures haven’t yet been confirmed, and neither have the prices or the UK on-sale date.
