The 308 has always been a smart family car and it is now getting a fresh new look for 2025. Peugeot will be hoping this latest facelift will tempt buyers away from ever-popular compact SUVs and more direct rivals like the Volkswagen Golf. The 308 will be offered with a range of engine options including the all-electric E-308 and there will still be a larger estate version for those needing a bit more space. Previously 308 models have often looked expensive compared to the competition, but we will have to wait a little longer to find out how much this latest version will cost. On the plus side, all electric Peugeots get up to eight years of warranty which should help provide peace of mind for potential buyers.
• The 308 sits between the 208 and the larger 508 in Peugeot’s line-up • It gains a new look at the front and electric versions can now go further between charges • The updated E-308 will have an electric range of up to 281 miles • Available from Autumn 2025 • Prices expected to start in the region of £30,000 to £35,000

Design and models available

The latest 308 is designed and built in France with 31 per cent of materials being either recycled or renewable. There is still the option of a hatchback or estate SW model, and each are available with three choices of trim: Allure, GT and GT Premium. The most notable changes are at the front which features a new bumper and grille with improved aerodynamic efficiency and a new light signature. The latest version of Peugeot’s three-claw LED light pattern is joined for the first time by an illuminated Peugeot emblem, and higher trim levels also gain further illuminations in the grille. At the back the design looks very familiar, though the lower part of the bumper is now black and chrome trim is no longer used. There are two new shades of blue paint options – Lagoa Blue for the hatchback and Ingaro Blue for the estate.

Interior and tech

Inside, the signature Peugeot layout remains. This consists of a small, sporty steering wheel with the ‘i-Cockpit’ digital display above. This now gets new 3D graphics on higher trim levels. There’s a 10-inch central touch-screen with a row of configurable ‘i-Toggles’ for shortcuts below. All models come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while range-topping models get extras like Alcantara upholstery, heated and massaging front seats and an air quality monitoring system, which filters out pollutants from the external environment. The E-308 is now vehicle-to-load compatible, so you can charge or power other devices using the car’s battery. There’s also the option to add a sunroof and a Focal sound system.

Batteries/range and engines

There’ll be a range of hybrid and electric power options plus Peugeot will be continuing to offer a diesel version too. The all-electric E-308 will have a 156 horsepower motor paired with a 55.4kWh useable battery. Peugeot claims this provides a range of up to 281 miles, which is 23 miles more than the previous model. This can rapid charge at up to 100kW and go from 20 to 80 per cent charge in 32 minutes. For those not ready to go fully electric there will also be a plug-in hybrid combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 17.2kWh battery. This offers 195 horsepower with an all-electric range of up to 53 miles – a 12-mile improvement on the last generation. However, only the range-topping GT Premium model comes with a 7.4kW onboard charger allowing you to fully recharge in two hours. Alternatively, there’s the 145 horsepower mild hybrid option, which adds an electric boost when accelerating and it can also drive for short distances on electric power. For high-mileage drivers there’s also an old-school 131 horsepower 1.5-litre diesel.

Price and release

The updated 308 is expected to arrive in this autumn and prices will be revealed in due course. Peugeot has already announced it expects the E-308 to be eligible for the government’s £1,500 electric car grant, so the starting price must be below the £37,000 threshold. Currently the 308 hybrid starts at just under £34,000 and we expect prices for the refreshed version to be in a similar ballpark.

What other cars from Peugeot are due this year?

Earlier in the year Peugeot teased the new E-208 GTi which is due to arrive in 2026. In the meantime, the new E-408, a fully electric version of the unusual coupe-like crossover will be hitting our roads shortly.

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

Rivals of the E-308 include the upcoming Kia EV4, the closely related DS N°4 and Nissan’s new Leaf. Meanwhile, the combustion powered 308 will be up against all the usual suspects including the VW Golf, Vauxhall Astra, Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. The estate 308 competes in a less crowded field, though there’s still plenty of competition from the Astra Sports Tourer, Golf Estate, Toyota Corolla Touring Sports and Skoda Octavia Estate.
