#10 | Skoda Enyaq

We gave Skoda’s roomy family SUV a glowing five-star review and owners voted it Best Car for Running Costs at this year’s Drivers’ Choice Awards, too, so it’s not surprising to see the Enyaq has been generating plenty of interest of Autotrader this month. The Enyaq embodies everything you’d expect from a Skoda – it’s spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. It’s the kind of car you can buy with your sensible hat well and truly on.

#9 | Cupra Raval

In contrast to the Enyaq, the Cupra Raval is much more of a wild child with edgy looks and a big personality. This fun electric hatchback may be compact, but it impressed us with its spacious interior, nimble handling and snazzy design. Though relatively affordable, it’s not the cheapest small EV on offer, but it has character in spades which helps it stand out against the crowd.

#8 | Kia EV3

The Kia EV3 was an instant success, and it is clearly still proving popular with buyers. We gave it the maximum five stars when we reviewed it and in 2025 owners voted it New Car of the Year at our Drivers’ Choice Awards. The EV3 continues to offer one of the best combinations of range, value, practicality and style. Enough said.

#7 | Alpine A290

In at number seven is the Renault 5’s sportier sibling, the Alpine A290. The Alpine gains chunky wheel arches, sharper handling and more power compared to the Renault, resulting in an electric hot hatch to rival the Abarth 500e, Peugeot E-208 GTi and Vauxhall Corsa GSE. The A290 is very French, very cool and very fun to drive.

#6 | Hyundai Inster

The Hyundai Inster is another five-star electric car with cute, Tamagotchi-like styling and a charming personality. Despite having a cosy interior with room for just four people, the Inster is big on tech and efficiency. Hyundai will shortly be bringing us the larger all-new Ioniq 3, though, so the pint-sized Inster better watch out!

#5 | MGS5

The MGS5 charts at number five this month and it tells you just how right MG is continuing to get things. The MGS5 picks up where its predecessor, the ZS , left off by offering a well-rounded blend of value, space and features. Met with increasing competition from newer models like the Leapmotor B10, the Aion V and the Geely EX5, buyers on Autotrader continue to rate the MGS5.

#4 | BMW iX3

The BMW iX3 is no stranger to praise and we’ve already included it in our list of best electric SUVs, best SUVs and it’s also one of the top electric cars for range. The iX3 has won plenty of awards, too, including the YouTube Director Award as chosen by our very own Rory Ried at this year’s Drivers’ Choice Awards. It’s almost boring how highly rated the iX3 is, but – thankfully – it really does live up to the hype.

#3 | Jaecoo 5

Across all fuel types Jaecoo was one of the most in-demand brands on Autotrader this August, but when it came to electric cars specifically the Jaecoo 5 was the third most popular model. Jaecoo scored runner up for the Best Value Brand award at our Drivers’ Choice awards this year and all Jaecoo 5 models are competitively priced and packed with plenty of creature comforts and safety gizmos.

#1 | Renault 5

This, right here, is how you do retro. Renault has taken the nameplate of its classic runabout from the ‘70s and ‘80s and totally modernised it for the electric age. It’s stunning, this thing, and it’s as good to drive as it is to look at. It’s also well-priced, has great battery range, lovely quality, and more interior flexibility than you’d think.
