Rory’s public life on the Autotrader YouTube channel might seem to be 24-7 sliding supercars round racetracks. But when it comes to his own time – and money – his tastes are rather more down-to-earth, the Tesla Model Y he’s been running perfectly suiting daily driving needs like the school run, supermarket trips and all the rest.
But his lease deal on the Tesla is soon up, and he needs something to replace it. In the time he’s been running the Model Y the new car landscape has changed dramatically as well, the arrival of Chinese brands like Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Geely, Aion, XPeng, Changan, BYD and others like them opening up a new – and occasionally confusing – array of family-friendly cars. Value-for-money is a common thread across them all, and British buyers are responding with their wallets, the market share for Chinese brands on a remarkable upward trajectory. Rory has pared his personal shortlist down to two – the Chery Tiggo 8 and Jaecoo 7 – and in this video he goes for a real-world test drive to figure out which best suits his needs. And talks to a few car buyers also considering their first car from a Chinese brand to find out what’s motivated them to do so. Join him for his shopping trip to find out which of these popular new models is the one he’ll be putting his own money into!
