With a distinctive design, technology borrowed from Formula 1 and over 1,000 horsepower, Audi’s all-new Nuvolari is the fastest production Audi to date. In an age where even Ferrari has launched its first electric car, Audi’s decision to design a V8 mid-engined hybrid named after the Italian racing driver Tazio Nuvolari seems all the more intriguing. This R8 successor features a carbon fibre body, a 'monolithic' design, a driver-centric interior and it will be limited to just 499 examples. However, the Nuvolari sets the stage for what future Audi models will look like, so expect more where this came from. Here’s everything we know about the Audi’s new supercar.

• This limited production supercar will be the fastest Audi yet

• It mirrors the monolithic design we saw last year on the all-electric Concept C concept car and features the same bespoke Titanium colour paintwork
• The mid-engined Nuvolari combines a powerful V8 with three motors and a small battery pack using technology inspired by Formula 1
• With 1,001 horsepower, the Nuvolari has a 0-62 mph time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph
• Only 499 cars will be available with deliveries expected in the first half of 2027
• Expected to cost upwards of £500,000

Design and models available

The Nuvolari’s sleek lines contrast against stark, angular details and the design closely resembles the Concept C revealed last year. The shape has been honed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency and features a deployable rear wing which can be raised to increase downforce or lowered to decrease drag. The body is made using carbon fibre components which are designed to be strong and heat resistant whilst keeping weight to a minimum using manufacturing techniques from Formula 1.

Interior and tech

Audi hasn’t revealed many images of the interior, but it has said the Nuvolari will be “fully focused on the act of driving” and it promises the “digital displays and physical controls follow a consistent logic, enabling natural interaction.” A central portrait infotainment screen is paired with a select number of chunky controls, and the colour scheme of the displays will feature nods to the 1930s Auto Union Type C race car. Meanwhile two-tone upholstery provides a minimalist, utilitarian vibe.

The whole car is packed with tech from motorsport, including a brake-by-wire system balancing regenerative braking against the car’s traditional brakes and high-performance brake discs designed to absorb energy without overheating.

Engines

The Nuvolari combines a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with three electric motors and a 7.3 kWh battery. This enables fully electric driving over short distances, but at the flick of a button there’s up to 1,001 horsepower available on tap. It features the latest version of Audi’s all-wheel drive with quattro predictive ride systems, which uses sensors to continually assess the conditions and grip at each wheel and tweak the steering, acceleration and braking accordingly for maximum performance.

Price and release

Only 499 examples of the Nuvolari will be produced and they are expected to arrive in the first half of 2027. Though Audi hasn’t shared exactly how much this exclusive supercar will cost, we expect it will set you back upwards of £500,000.

What other cars from Audi are due this year?

This year Audi is set to revive the A2 as an all-electric family car. The A2 e-tron will be closely related to the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo and Cupra Born and it is due to arrive this autumn. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Audi is also due to launch the luxurious Q9, which will be a large six or seven-seat SUV. Meanwhile it is continuing to update existing models like the Q4 e-tron and Q7.

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

There aren’t many cars able to rival the Audi Nuvolari’s impressive stats, but the Lamborghini Temerario and Ferrari 296 will be close competitors.
