Try, Buy, Dream – September 2024
This month’s selection of cars to try out, buy or simply dream about

Trying a car has never been easier - lots of car brands now offer subscription services on a monthly basis, with no down payment or exit fee so you can swap in and out of different models with minimal notice. Or you can lock in for longer, on a leasing deal, which still means you just pay a monthly amount and hand the car back at the end of the deal.
Then there’s the Buy choice, whether it’s paying for the car with cash or signing up to a fixed term finance deal with the option to buy the car at the end. These are cars that make good long-term sense. And finally our fave section, for dreamers everywhere. The new luxe stuff, the wishlist option or the treat yourself splurge, depending on how big that imagined windfall might be. Enjoy this month’s offerings!

Try
Renault Symbioz
Renault is on a roll at the moment. However, we can’t help feeling it has gotten a little carried away with the number of crossover SUVs it offers. Working out whether a Symbioz, Austral or Arkana is the best fit for your needs could be a bit puzzling, but Renault does have a subscription service allowing you to try one out for as little as three months. This way you could start with a Symbioz and if it ends up being too big or too small, you can quickly swap it for something else. The monthly payments look high, but there’s no deposit to pay, plus insurance, servicing, road tax and breakdown cover are all included. The Symbioz is powered by Renault’s hybrid system, so should be economical to run and if you can stretch to the range-topping version you will even get a fancy Solarbay glass roof capable of transforming from frosted to clear as if by magic.

Buy
Toyota Prius
Last month we recommended the Yaris Cross as the car to buy and for September we have another Toyota worthy of your shopping list. The latest Prius has just arrived in the UK and it’s almost unrecognisable compared to the previous versions. It now packs more punch with a sleeker design and increased performance. It also has an official electric only range of 53 miles, so if you can plug it in at home, it could help you save a substantial amount of money on fuel. We love how the Prius’s glow-up means we can now recommend it for its style as well as its hybrid tech and we particularly like how it looks painted in ‘Mustard’ yellow.

Dream
Aston Martin Vanquish
We cannot stop daydreaming about Aston Martin’s all new Vanquish. With its gorgeous flowing design, sumptuous interior and whopping V12 engine the Vanquish is a thing of beauty. Aston Martin is limiting production to just 1000 per year so unless you happen to be 007 you might struggle to get your hands on one. If you could get behind the wheel you’d have 835 horsepower to play with and be able to reach a top speed of 214mph – although obviously not on a public road. We reckon the Vanquish would be perfect for our next European road trip, but alas we will just keep dreaming on.
