Trying a car has never been easier - lots of car brands now offer subscription services on a monthly basis, with no down payment or exit fee so you can swap in and out of different models with minimal notice. Or you can lock in for longer, on a leasing deal, which still means you just pay a monthly amount and hand the car back at the end of the deal.
Then there’s the Buy choice, whether it’s paying for the car with cash or signing up to a fixed term finance deal with the option to buy the car at the end. These are cars that make good long-term sense. And finally our fave section, for dreamers everywhere. The new luxe stuff, the wishlist option or the treat yourself splurge, depending on how big that imagined windfall might be. Enjoy this month’s offerings!

Try

Volvo V90

Last year Volvo removed its estate cars from sale in the UK to focus on SUVs. However, this didn’t last long and after an outpouring of love for the iconic load-luggers, Volvo changed its mind and decided to bring them back! Here at Auto Trader, we couldn’t be happier. The V90 is the crème de la crème of estates with its elegant sweeping bodywork, impeccable safety standards and Google integrated tech. A far cry from the boxy 850s of old. Your only engine option is now a powerful plug-in hybrid offering up to 51 miles of all-electric range. This is a great way to try electric motoring without committing to a full EV, though if you do find plugging-in works for you, Volvo’s subscription service gives the flexibility to change into one of its fully electric cars after as little as three months.

Buy

Toyota Yaris Cross

The Yaris Cross is a no-nonsense crossover. It’s easy to drive and a doddle to live with thanks to Toyota’s hybrid system. This adds electrification and improves fuel economy but without the need to plug in. While it is less glamourous than its cousin, the Lexus LBX, the Yaris Cross has all the essentials covered. A recent round of updates has added extra refinement and tech, improving on what was already a very comprehensive package. This makes the Yaris Cross a solid choice for anyone after a compact car with all the manoeuvrability of a small hatchback but with the higher driving position of an SUV.

Dream

Pagani Utopia Roadster

This month we are California dreamin’ after some of the most exotic cars on the planet were displayed during Monterey Car Week. Among the array of one-of-a-kind creations, Pagani’s Utopia Roadster caught our eye. Shunning electrification in favour of pure petrol power, its manual gearbox is connected to a V12 engine producing 864 horsepower. We are obsessed with how its physical dials and levers keep things traditional and how it looks more like a fighter jet than a car. If only we had a spare €3.1 million so we could have our own. Pagani is making sure the Utopia Roadster stays exclusive by only making 130 and each one with be unique. Customers can specify everything from the paintwork colour to the leather on the matching luggage set. Meanwhile, we’ll just have to imagine what owning one would be like.
