Try, Buy, Dream – October 2026

This month’s selection of cars to try out, buy or simply dream about

It has never been easier to try a car, van or bike – some brands offer subscription services on a monthly basis, with no down payment or exit fee so you can swap in and out of different models with minimal notice. Or you can lock in for longer, on a leasing deal, which still means you just pay a monthly amount and hand the vehicle back at the end of the deal. Additionally, some brands provide 24-hour test drives for a chance to get to know the vehicle before you commit.

Then there’s the Buy choice, whether it’s paying in one hit or signing up to a fixed term finance deal with the option to buy at the end. These are vehicles that make good long-term sense.

And finally our fave section, for dreamers everywhere. The new luxe stuff, the wishlist option or the treat yourself splurge, depending on how big that imagined windfall might be.

Enjoy this month’s offerings!

Try

Skoda Enyaq

We gave the Skoda Enyaq SUV a full five out of five stars when we tested it because it’s practical, well-equipped, family-friendly and it just happens to be electric, too. We’re not the only fans of the Enyaq, though, as this year owners voted it Best Car for Running Costs at Autotrader's Drivers’ Choice Awards. Given the ever-rising fuel prices, this alone seems like a great reason to give an Enyaq a try and you can currently lease one for under £300 per month.

Buy

Hyundai Ioniq 3

We are loving the new wave of smaller and more affordable electric cars hitting the market. The Geely EX2 was our pick for August, last month we recommended the Kia EV2 and for October it is all about the Hyundai Ioniq 3. The Hyundai looks much more striking than the EX2 and we liked the Ioniq 3’s user-friendly interface and grown-up composure. But it’s the price of the Ioniq 3 we are most impressed with. Once the full Electric Car Grant is applied, the Ioniq 3 starts at just £18,495, undercutting the Renault 5, Volkswagen ID. Polo, Fiat Grande Panda, Kia EV2 and the Geely EX2 to boot! It’s amazing value for money and the only negative thing we can mention is the limited rear headroom. So, assuming you don’t regularly need to transport tall passengers in the back, we think you should hot foot it to your local Hyundai dealership to buy an Ioniq 3 immediately.

Dream

Range Rover Electric

They say good things come to those who wait and oh how long we have waited for an electric Range Rover, but now it is finally here in all its glory. If any brand could pull off creating a luxury electric car truly capable of going anywhere, it would be Range Rover. You really could climb every mountain, ford every stream and follow every rainbow in a Range Rover Electric – and we literally did when we tested it in the Scottish Highlands. We’ve found our dream right here...
