Pitched as one to watch in the competition against Tesla’s market dominance, America’s Lucid Motors has quietly been building its reputation in the electric car space and seem set to explode. But who is Lucid Motors, and what makes it special?

Who is Lucid Motors?

Founded in 2007 by Bernard Tse, Sam Weng, and Sheaupyng Lin, Lucid initially aimed to develop electric vehicle battery technology, but shifted its focus to manufacturing electric cars as they realised the potential of the growing market. Many have dubbed Lucid Motors a potential competitor to Tesla in the luxury electric vehicle market, with both companies focusing their efforts on high-performance electric cars, cutting-edge technology and long-range travel.
There’s an interesting connection between Lucid Motors and Tesla in Peter Rawlinson. He’s the current CEO of Lucid Motors, was once the chief engineer of the Tesla Model S, with a significant role in its development.

Lucid Air’s exceptional range makes it a stand-out electric car

Lucid Motors gained significant attention after unveiling its first car, the Lucid Air, in September 2020. Top configurations of the Lucid Air can reach an industry-leading and truly exceptional range of up to 520 miles (837 kilometres) on a single charge. Following the success of the Lucid Air, Lucid Motors introduced additional variants and models to its lineup including the Lucid Air Dream Edition (the highest-performance version), and the Lucid Air Grand Touring. Lucid has also announced plans for an SUV, the Lucid Gravity.
Lucid continue to develop battery technology alongside advancements in charging infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions.
