We've driven the brand new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 and made a video about it. It's fast, fun and discrete... the car, not the video

We’ve only gone and made a video about the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53. For the uninitiated, that's an SUV with massive size, massive presence, and massive power… 544 horses of it.
But actually, it’s more discrete than you might think. Because it’s a hybrid, see. A hybrid capable of moving the thing along for up to 53 miles using only electricity. And in silent(ish) and calm(ish) fashion. And that’s basically what the video is about. Spoiled it a bit there, tbh. It's still worth a watch though, because as with all our videos, it gets you to that conclusion in enthusiastic and entertaining style. Click the link above to watch. Also subscribe to our YouTube channel while you’re there, to keep up to date with some of the best car content on the whole world wide internet.

About the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53

Combining a 450-horsepower 3.0 petrol engine with a 134-horsepower electric motor, the GLE 53 will hit 62mpn in 4.7 seconds. It can hit 87mph using the electric motor alone, which means that if you keep your daily mileage down you can… technically… operate it as a pure electric car. No seven-seat option, sadly, but that does mean it seats five in space and comfort. The boot possibly isn’t as big as you’d expect, though. Decent enough at 490 litres, but that’s 140 smaller than a non-hybrid GLE’s, because of the battery pack and other electric stuff sitting under the boot floor. Hey ho, that’s surely a big enough rear hole for most, and the GLE 53 otherwise feel like a very large and luxurious family car. As it should for 100 grand. That’s enough to buy a Porsche Cayenne, a top-end BMW X5, a very nice used Bentley Bentayga or one MG4 XPower for every member of your immediate family. Something to think about. Anyways, go to YouTube now. But then come back, obviously. Maybe start with this video about how we've ranked the fastest cars.
