Chinese newcomer Jaecoo has taken off impressively quickly. The first Jaecoo arrived on UK shores in January 2025 with sister brand Omoda only a few months ahead and together they are already hot on the heels of more established brands like Tesla and BYD. Now Jaecoo is bringing us its first all-electric model. Enter the Jaecoo E5, a compact SUV to rival the Kia EV3, MGS5 or Omoda’s own Omoda E5. The Jaecoo will be hoping the E5’s combination of chunky design, generous tech and affordable price tag will make it an appealing option for buyers.
• The Jaecoo E5 is the first EV from the brand, and the compact SUV will hit the market alongside its petrol equivalent, the Jaecoo 5 • Majoring on the amount of kit you get as standard the Jaecoo E5 comes with a large central touchscreen, all around cameras and vehicle-to-load compatibility so you can charge other electrical devices using the car’s battery • With a range of up to 248 miles • First customer deliveries expected in October 2025 • Starting from £27,505

Design and models available
Like the larger Jaecoo 7, the Jaecoo E5 has clearly taken design inspiration from Range Rover with the imposing high bonnet and chunky proportions. At the front the enormous front grille you’ll find on the petrol version has been swapped for a flush wraparound panel instantly signalling it out as an EV. At the back there’s a strong hint of Range Rover Evoque as Jaecoo tries to offer premium vibes in an affordable package. There will be two trim levels, Pure and Luxury, and even the entry-level model looks well equipped.

Interior and tech
We’ve not seen many pictures of the inside but expect it to closely resemble the Jaecoo 7. There’s a large central 13.2-inch touchscreen which will control most of the car’s functions paired with a digital driver display. The Jaecoo E5 will have a built-in voice assistant and comes with a suite of driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. You’ll also get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and what Jaecoo calls a 540-dgree camera system which displays multiple viewpoints at once. The Jaecoo E5 has vehicle-to-load capability so you can charge other devices like camping equipment using the car’s battery. Like a Tesla or Polestar, the Jaecoo E5 has a ‘Pet Mode’ to keep the interior cool when parked. Moving up to the higher trim grade you’ll gain a panoramic roof, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated electric front seats, ambient lighting and an upgraded Sony sound system.

Batteries/range
The Jaecoo E5 has 207 horsepower and gets an official WLTP range of 248 miles from its 61.1kWh battery. When you do need to top it up it will receive DC charging up to 80kW and in ideal conditions should charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 27 minutes. None of these are class leading, but as most people will be charging at home overnight, the Jaecoo E5 should be easy enough to live with.
Price and release
The price is by far the most compelling feature of the Jaecoo E5. It starts at £27,505 for Pure models with range-topping models costing £30,505 which is still considerably less than a Kia EV3. Plus, buyers will receive a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty while the battery gets its own eight-year/100,000-mile cover. The first cars are expected to arrive in October.
What other cars from Jaecoo are due this year?
Jaecoo will be launching a petrol Jaecoo 5 alongside the all-electric version. Given how quickly the brand is growing, Jaecoo is likely to have a selection of new cars in all shapes and sizes with a variety of petrol, electric and hybrid powertrains in the pipeline.
What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?
There’s an ever-growing number of compact electric SUVs to choose from. This price point is in the region of the smaller Renault 4 or Fiat 600e, yet the Jaecoo is much roomier and can compete with more expensive models like the Kia EV3 or the Skoda Elroq.
