Confirmation that new internal combustion cars will no longer be sold after 2030 will have focused attention on going electric. Why wait until then, though? The range of EVs in the market is growing all the time and with choice comes competition, which means deals for consumers.

List price remains a bottom line comparison but the reality is these days most people buy on finance. So we’ve been putting in the legwork to find out the best monthly PCP deals on a selection of our favourite electric cars. To help reduce the variables and offer a like-for-like comparison we asked manufacturers for deals based on a £3,000 initial deposit and a monthly price over a 48-month term. Different brands may be offering different deals at any given time but this offers a level playing field so you can see how the different cars compare.

For those new to electric cars there is of course a lot of new jargon to understand. Fear not, we’ve got guides to all the questions you have, including how batteries work, how to charge and an idea of how those costs compare whether you’re doing it at home or hooking up at public points.

Remember too that if you’re buying an EV as a company car you could save a packet on Benefit In Kind, while zero VED will help all drivers.

Volkswagen e-Golf - £339.95 per month

There’s a new generation of Golf out now but Volkswagen still has stock of the e-Golf, which is based on the outgoing model. With a bigger battery and improved performance over the first-generation e-Golf this version has an official range of 124 miles and is the perfect commuter.
