Morris Commercial has released images of the pre-production Morris JE and its production roadmap. The company has confirmed it will pilot production in 2027 before ramping up to commercial-scale production in 2028. It looks to be slightly larger – and no less nostalgic – than the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo, and looks set to compete in specification with most small-to-medium-sized electric vans such as the Ford E-Transit Custom, Kia PV5 Cargo and Stellantis electric vans.
We will update this article with more information when it becomes available… for now, here’s everything we know about the Morris JE.
What will the Morris JE electric van offer drivers?
The Morris JE will, according to the company, be built using the world’s first recycled carbon fibre monocoque commercial vehicle body with lightweight aluminium chassis architecture. It will be capable of carrying a payload of up to 1,000 kg, will sit at a 2,500 kg gross vehicle weight (GVW), and the loadspace will provide a cargo volume of up to six cubic metres. The van’s maximum range sits around 300 miles with a 30-min rapid charge taking the battery from 20 to 80 per cent. The modular platform will support conversions into pick-up truck, minibus and camper derivatives.
What will the Morris JE electric van look like?
The Morris JE aims to bring back one of Britain's most iconic automotive designs and launch it into the electric age. The design is inspired by the iconic Morris J-Type, with the JE combining a nostalgic look with advanced electric technology and sustainable materials to create a unique commercial vehicle.

When will the Morris JE be produced?
The acquisition of a company called Prodrive Composites, bringing with it advanced composite manufacturing expertise and facilities to Morris Commercials, will see the JE enter pilot production in 2027 at the company’s composite manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes and commercial-scale production at St Athan in South Wales by 2028.
The company has received over 7,000 expressions of interest from prospective customers across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. The key types of businesses getting in touch are premium retailers, hospitality businesses, artisan food and beverage operators, specialist trades, sports and creative industries.
How much will the Morris JE cost?
The company has not confirmed how much the Morris JE will cost, but we will add it here as soon as that information is revealed.
