A long-wheelbase version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo is confirmed for the UK… but exactly when is still TBC. Here’s everything we know about it

Other electric vans can carry heavier loads and won't bite as deeply into your budget, but none of them inspire total strangers to admire your ride in quite the same way as the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo. The most recent Autotrader review rated the van four out of five stars, highlighting the van’s build quality and strong nearly-300-mile range courtesy of a new battery upgrade.

So, what’s the news? Aside from remaining a genuinely stylish panel van inside and out, it’s getting bigger! We’ve had confirmation that a long-wheelbase model is coming to the UK, but we don’t know when (just yet). This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement of the Kia PV7, a larger version of the company's PV5 Cargo that should provide some healthy competition in the electric van market. 

Anyway, here’s what we know (so far) about the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB. 

What is the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo?

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo is the business version of the ID.Buzz. In van format the van has three seats in the cabin and a load compartment in the rear. It has a relatively small turning circle and provides a load volume of 3.9 cubic metres in its standard size and 4.4 cubic metres in its new LWB version.

What does ‘LWB’ mean?

‘LWB’ stands for ‘long-wheelbase’ meaning the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB is a longer version of the standard Cargo offering more internal space in the load compartment.

What improvements does the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB provide?

The new LWB version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo provides several improvements over the short-wheelbase version. Take a look at the sections below for more information. 

How much load volume does the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB provide?

The LWB is around 30 centimetres longer than the SWB (short wheelbase) version and can carry load volumes of up to 4.4 cubic metres in its 2.45-metre-long load compartment.

How much payload can the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB carry?

Depending on which drive system you choose, the maximum payload the LWB version can carry is up to 697 kg.

What equipment does the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo offer drivers?

This includes the universal floor, a second sliding door and additional lashing rails in the sliding doors. As with the short-wheelbase version, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is available with two rear wing doors as an alternative to the tailgate. A new steering wheel removes the touch controls that caused customers some hassle and replaces them with real buttons! The vehicle also features onboard power for powering or charging external equipment like tools or even coffee machines – this is done by way of an adapter plugged into the van’s charging port (see picture), which in the UK will have a three-pin socket on the adapter for you to use.

What is the range of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB?

The long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo is equipped with an 86 kWh battery (the normal wheelbase version’s biggest battery is 79 kWh) offering close to 300 miles of WLTP range.

What drive systems is the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB available with?

The new LWB Cargo is also available with 4MOTION all-wheel drive as an alternative to rear-wheel drive, with power output increasing from 210 kW to 250 kW.

How much weight can the 4MOTION Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB tow?

The normal-wheelbase version can tow 1,800 kg braked while the long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Pro 4MOTION is rated at 1,600 kg. This is an increase of 600 kg over the rear-wheel-drive variant, applied to the ID. Buzz Cargo 4MOTION with the longer wheelbase).

How much does the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB cost and when will it be available in the UK?

At present no pricing or launch date for the UK has been released for the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo LWB. We will update this section as soon as any information is available.
