With prices starting from just over £38K ex VAT, order books are now open for the new Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid – a new plug-in hybrid variant of the popular medium van. We already have reviews of the Transporter in Panel Van, Kombi, Electric Panel Van and Sportline flavours, and can’t wait to get our hands on one packing the new hybrid powertrain. But until then, here’s everything we know about the Transporter eHybrid.

The new Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid’s headline stats include its 35 miles of pure electric range, a 1,132 kg payload and 2,300 kg towing capacity (Panel Van), and the inclusion of a 2.5-litre petrol engine in its hybrid powertrain.

The new Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid will be available in Panel Van, Kombi and Shuttle body types.
How practical is the Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid?
The Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid model will provide the same levels of practicality as the other Transporters currently available, with the ability to carry a 1,132 kg payload and tow up to 2,300kg if you opt for the Panel Van model.
What powertrain does the Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid use?
The Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid uses a hybrid powertrain pairing a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 11.8kWh battery. This combination outputs 228 horsepower through CVT transmission and provides a pure electric range of up to 35 miles, depending on which bodystyle you choose. The battery can be recharged from empty to full on a 3.7 kW AC charger in around 4.5 hours. If you’re interested, we’ve tested Volkswagen’s eHybrid system on the Caddy Cargo eHybrid small van – although the Transporter’s system uses a bigger petrol engine.
What warranty is the Volkswagen Transporter Hybrid covered by?
The entire Volkswagen Transporter line-up, including the new eHybrid version, is covered by the company’s excellent 5+ Promise warranty. This package comprises five services, three MOTs, a five-year warranty and five years of Roadside Assistance.
How much does the Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid cost?
Prices for the new Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid start from £38,1551 (ex VAT) or just £439 per month on a Contract Hire lease – these are subject to change, with the lease price being a representative example.
