Volkswagen has confirmed the launch of the Amarok Dark Label Special Edition, a new super-spec version of its stalwart pick-up truck. Here’s everything we know about it

You read that right! There’s a new super-spec pick-up truck in town – the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition. This moody new truck features a black X-fascia at the front and matte black 20-inch alloy wheels, 4MOTION all-wheel-drive and locking rear differential as standard, and an ex-VAT price of just under £48K.

The Amarok has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best all-round pick-ups in the UK (thanks in no small part to sharing a platform with the Ford Ranger). The Amarok Dark Label Special Edition builds on the base vehicle’s attributes with the addition of stylish and (in Volkswagen’s words) “practical” features. Let’s get into them.

What new external features does the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition have?

The Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition features roof rails, rear styling bars, side steps, exterior mirrors, bumpers and door handles all in gloss black, just like its X-style front fascia, grill insert and skid plate. The truck’s 20-inch alloy wheels are a new matte black finish. The special variant of the Amarok is available in metallic black, metallic blue, or metallic grey paint, all at no extra cost.

What new internal features does the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition have?

Inside, the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition features all-black ArtVelours microfleece fabric seats. This adds to an already-premium cabin experience, with things like a 10-inch digital cockpit and 12-inch infotainment system, and the huge list of safety and assistance tech. It also comes with a couple of practical additions, including a factory-fitted load liner and sliding load cover.

What engine does the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition have?

The Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label Special Edition packs a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This combination delivers peak power of 237 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. This special variant has always-on 4MOTION all-wheel drive capability and comes with a rear differential lock included as standard.
