The reborn Renault 5 is, undeniably, the electric superstar for our times, its blend of affordability and style earning it no fewer than THREE wins in our recent Drivers’ Choice Awards, including Most Fun Car to Drive, Best Car for City Driversand the overall New Car of the Year. We lived with one for six months and (mostly) loved it just as much, Renault’s performance division Alpine putting its own hotter twist on the 5 with its awesome A290.

But what if you want more? Like, a LOT more? Like, the ability to do big drifts and eat supercars for breakfast? Turns out with a little nod to its 80s rallying history the Renault 5 can do that, too. Join Rory for a passenger lap with a difference in the exciting – and very exclusive – Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

With three motors, 555 horsepower, drift modes and a stripped back interior it may look like a mad concept but will actually be going on sale alongside the regular 5. OK, at £140,000 starting price it costs rather a lot more. And just 100 of the 1,980 total production run will be coming to the UK, so if you’re not already on the list you’ll need sharp elbows to make sure you are.

Having watched Rory’s view from the passenger seat on a hot lap of Goodwood you might just want to make that happen! Suffice to say, after this teaser Rory’s raring to have a go at the wheel himself.
