Is the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye suitable for UK roads?
We’re more likely to see compact hatchbacks and SUVs on the roads of Great Britain, but there are those drivers who seek something a bit more exotic – and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye stands as a unique proposition for the more adventurous among us. This American muscle car boasts an impressive 797 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful vehicles on the market – but would it make sense as a practical daily driver in the UK? Rory Reid finds out in our new video, while we take a closer look at the Hellcat Redeye below.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye at a glance

The first thing that strikes you about the Hellcat Redeye is the sheer size of it. At over two metres wide and five metres long, it's notably larger than many vehicles found on our roads, so navigating B-roads and parallel parking could be a challenge to say the least – especially if you’re trying to get into a standard supermarket parking spot.
There are four seats, though the backseats are probably best used occasionally only. There’s a decent sized boot, so it’s not overly cramped but could pose a challenge for fitting suitcases and larger items due to its shape. And, being American, the Hellcat Redeye is a left-hand drive – you can see how that fares in a British drive-through in the video. Despite its drawbacks, there are solid reasons to consider the Hellcat Redeye. Its bold, eye-catching design sets it apart on British roads, where such vehicles are still a rarity. The real star of the show, however, is the 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 engine, which delivers both incredible sound and performance. The Hellcat Redeye accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, while the eight-speed automatic transmission unlocks a playful and controllable ride. With a price tag of £130,000, and the inevitably higher tax and insurance bands, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye will only sell to a scant few in the UK. With a fuel consumption rate of around nine miles per gallon when driven with enthusiasm, it's not the most eco-conscious choice, either. Factor in its relatively small fuel tank and the Redeye offers a range of approximately 180 miles - significantly lower than the average electric car. Ultimately, these aren’t always the things that matter for cars of this type. It’s the power, design and driving experience that make them a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking something special. As V8 Challenger production is slated to end in 2023, this model represents one of the last chances to own a Redeye. So, would you get one if you could?
