Looking for that last petrol-powered hurrah before the world turns electrified? If you want to bring the family along for the ride there’s no shortage of choice when it comes to noisy, unashamedly excessive, V8-powered luxury SUVs from famous British brands, each with their own characters. You could go fast in a Range Rover, with SV versions of the Big Daddy or Sport. Or do it off road with the OCTA version of the Defender. Or maybe you want a sportier number, like the Aston Martin DBX.
Then there’s the more elegant alternative, in the shape of the Bentley Bentayga Speed, previewed here by Rory with an exclusive walk around detailing what makes it different. OK, some hardcore fans may be crying over the fact it’s downsized from the previous 12-cylinder engine for a ‘mere’ V8. But, as Rory explains, this isn’t necessarily the disaster you might think. And the new Speed has some tricks up its sleeve, including … a drift mode. In a luxury SUV. Or you could lounge in the airline style rear seats while your chauffeur (or other designated driver) wafts you along at speeds of up to 193mph, should your travels include some derestricted German Autobahn. Fair to say it’ll probably be just as comfortable at more real world speeds, too. For now just a static walk around Rory does at least get a chance to fire up that V8 engine and check out how it sounds. And if that doesn’t whet your appetite nothing will! Check out the video and if you haven’t already subscribe to the YouTube channel for more great content, and a notification for when Rory gets a chance to put the Bentayga Speed through its paces and try that drift mode for size!
