The RZ was launched in 2023 as Lexus’s first dedicated battery-electric vehicle before the lineup was extended in 2024 with a front-wheel drive model. Now, in 2025, it has been confirmed the new RZ electric SUV will feature new steer-by-wire technology, increased range, faster charging and an F Sport model. It will make its UK debut in early 2026.
Here’s everything we know so far.
  • The new RZ will see the first application of Lexus’s steer-by-wire system
  • The upgraded battery electric system will mean the new RZ can offer up to 60 miles more range and faster charging
  • The first RZ F Sport model has been confirmed - RZ 550e - offering more power and Lexus’s new Interactive Manual Drive virtual gear shifting tech
  • New RZ will be available in the UK from early 2026, with full model range and specifications to be confirmed later in 2025

Design and models available

We know that two standard models - 350e and 500e - will be available, alongside a top-spec F Sport model. The all-wheel drive F Sport model in particular will bring boosted performance and style to the RZ range, offering drivers a maximum output of 408 PS, the new Interactive Manual Drive virtual gear shifting and DIRECT4 all-wheel drive. It will also look slightly different to the standard models with lower front bumpers, brake ducts, front and rear spoilers, a beefy back bumper and 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels with resin covers.

Interior and tech

Let’s start with the big bit of tech news: the new RZ will be the first model to make use of Lexus’s new steer-by-wire system across the lineup. For the driver, this means a new cockpit and steering wheel designed to be almost rectangular with curved grips on both sides. The system’s range is around 200 degrees from full left to right lock, which will give drivers ample control while the system intelligently adjusts steering dynamics according to speed. We’re told the feedback provided through the wheel will be enough to inspire confidence the vehicle will go where it’s told, but not so heavy it feels unpleasant.
Exclusive to the F Sport model will be the inclusion of the new Interactive Manual Drive system which allows the driver to control power output with paddle shifting for manual gear selection. It’s been programmed with an eight-speed virtual gear set-up, replicated engine sounds, a rev limiter and shift guide, so drivers really do feel like they’re shifting actual gears. It’s all very clever, but we’ve yet to see it in use. As you’d expect from a Lexus, the interiors across the range will be comfortable and use sustainable plant-based materials, ‘Ultrasuede’ and multi-colour ambient lighting to create a relaxing driving environment. A new dimming function has also been added to the panoramic roof to help minimise glare and reflections on the interior screens. Lexus is also aiming to make the new RZ even quieter to drive by adding updated soundproofing and sound absorption, such as a new floor silencer beneath the rear seats and enhanced soundproofing throughout the vehicle on the tonneau cover, back door trim and load compartment.

Batteries and range

The new RZ’s battery electric system has been heavily updated, most notably the new eAxle system and bigger, water-cooled 77kWh lithium-ion batteries will offer increased efficiency, power and range. There will be three different power options available: 224 PS in the RZ 350e, 381 PS in the RZ 500e, and 408 PS in the RZ 550e F Sport. Although unconfirmed right now, Lexus has said that the revised system and new batteries will see the RZ’s range increase by up to 60 miles. Charging will also be quicker – 30 minutes less than the current RZ – thanks to the new 22kW AC onboard charger, which is being added to selected Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Finally, the new tech will allow the all-wheel-drive models to pull braked loads of up to 1,500kg.

Price and release

Prices and specifications for the UK have not been confirmed at this time, but we do know that the new RZ lineup will launch early in 2026.

What other cars from Lexus are due this year?

Aside from the new RZ you’re reading about right now, Lexus has confirmed three new battery electric models will make their debut in the next 12 months - we’ll keep you posted as more details come to light.
