In the world of high-performance cars, Mercedes-AMG has been a consistent front-runner for its power, style, and innovation.
It took that to the next level with one of the most exciting cars in its recent history, the AMG GT, and we’re thrilled to share that a new one is on the way. Alex Legouix heads to Vienna for a first look at this new generation, and here’s how the AMG GT aims to stand out.
Power and performance
As we’d expect from a car like this, performance is the prime focus.
Fans of the brand will be thrilled to hear a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine remains at the heart of the new AMG GT, which packs a staggering 585 horsepower and 800Nm of torque. Paired with a nine-speed transmission and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, this car promises to go from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 315 kph (~200 mph).
Desirable design
Alex gives us a run-through of just how many boxes the AMG GT ticks, including a menacing front end, classic ‘gran turismo’ proportions, and a sleek silhouette.
The AMG GT’s rear features connected tail lights and an integrated adaptive spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics and style, while the expressive front boasts an AMG grille and distinctive signature lights. Inside, you get an elegant leather dashboard with turbine-style air vents, digital interfaces, and a stunning 11.8-inch central screen across a driver-centric layout. There’s an attention to detail that runs throughout, amplified by the high-quality materials and apparent on first glance.
Practicality and performance
Beyond the beauty, the second-generation AMG GT has made some notable improvements to its practicality. The optional two-plus-two seating layout and increased luggage space make this car better suited to daily use.
How does it compare to other AMG models?
The Mercedes-AMG GT is certainly a head-turner and a worthy addition to AMG's illustrious history, but how does it compare to other AMG models, like the SL63? Will it prove itself a favourite among performance car enthusiasts?
