The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the company’s first ever electric car, is available to order now. It’s yours for £180,000. We’ve known for a while that Maserati would be introducing a fully electric version of the GranTurismo but now the wait is over. The GranTurismo Folgore is just the beginning of the electrified range coming soon from Maserati, with the Grecale Folgore SUV and GranCabrio Folgore convertible to follow shortly.
If you’re wondering, Folgore means lightning in Italian, and it will be used on all electric Maseratis. Given the speed of the new GranTurismo Folgore the name is entirely justified. With its 0-62 mph time of just 2.7 seconds, the GranTurismo Folgore can out accelerate the quickest Porsche Taycan.

Built using technology first developed for Formula-E, the GranTurismo Folgore has three electric motors producing 760 horsepower and resulting in a 202mph top speed. Yet, Maserati says it can also provide up to 280 miles on a single charge. When out and about, if you need to plug in, its fast charging capability means you could add up to 62 miles of range in just five minutes and you’ll get three years free public charging through the Maserati Public Charging App. For charging at home, Maserati is also offering customers their own Maserati branded home wallbox.
It's not a cheap way into electric ownership, though. On top of the £180,000 price tag (almost £50,000 more than the starting price of a petrol GranTurismo), adding a personalised paint colour could cost you up to £27,000.

It will be available alongside two V6 GranTurismos, the £133,000 Modena and the more powerful £163,470 Trofeo. Although you might not spot the subtle aesthetic differences between the petrol and electric versions at first glance, Maserati has added unique design touches to the Folgore. The Maserati trident logo and the other name badges on the car are dark copper, while the side vents are illuminated in electric blue, and the front grille has gloss black inserts. Inside Maserati has used materials made from plastic scraps and old fishing nets to upholster the seats, pillars, sun visors and the headlining. This has allowed for new upholstery designs created using laser etching techniques, keeping the elegance of his grand tourer but modernising it for the electric age.
