On the 27th of February Kia will be hosting an EV Day in Spain where it will showcase a range of concept and production-ready electric vehicles. This is the second EV Day from the brand following last year’s event in its home country of Korea. So far we know of three vehicles which will be on display: the production ready EV4, the PV5, and the Concept EV2 which will eventually become the smallest electric model in Kia’s line-up. All new vehicles follow Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language featuring bold lines and the latest technology. In its teaser, Kia isn’t giving much away, but we’ve already seen concept versions of the EV4 and PV5, so we expect the finished models to look very similar.
Kia Concept EV2
This is the car we know the least about, yet it’s the one we are the most excited about. Recently we’ve seen a new wave of smaller, affordable electric cars hitting the market and this EV2 concept is an indication of more to come. All we’ve been shown so far is a portion of the front bonnet and rear pillar which both bear the hallmarks of the EV3 with chunky wheel arches and Kia’s latest headlight design. Like the EV3, we expect the EV2 to offer great value for money and to compete with other compact electric cars such as the Citreon e-C3, Fiat Grande Panda and the Renault 4.

Kia EV4
The concept for the EV4 was unveiled at Kia’s previous EV Day alongside concepts of the EV3 and the EV5. Back then, Kia promised the EV4 would “redefine the electric saloon shape” creating “an entirely new type of EV saloon that stands as a symbol of innovation”. From what we can see, the rear of the production-ready car will closely match the shape of the concept and to Kia’s credit it does look very striking. However, since the concept was launched, models like the Polestar 4, Ford Capri, and Cupra Tavascan have all entered the market blurring the line between saloons, coupes, and SUVs, so we look forward to seeing whether the EV4 really does carve out its own niche.

Kia PV5
Finally, Kia will also be lifting the lid on the PV5 commercial vehicle. The concept of the PV5 was first revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last year and we saw it on display at the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle show in Hanover. It used Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technology which allows for more flexibility in body shape and size, creating a range of vehicles for cargo or passengers. The concepts featured large screens at the front and rear, with a minimalist interior, and cameras rather than wing-mirrors. It will be interesting to see how much of this makes the final model – particularly as we spotted traditional wing-mirrors in the imagery – but the light signature certainly resembles the concept.
