Sister brand to fellow Chinese entrant Omoda, Jaecoo has unveiled its first model for the UK. Called the Jaecoo 7, it’s a large SUV due on sale in January with the option of conventional petrol engines or a choice of hybrids. Orders are open now for all!
Jaecoo joins the ranks of Chinese brands wooing consumers who've never heard of them with low prices, the Jaecoo 7 starting at £29,435 for the two-wheel drive, 1.6-litre (147 horsepower) petrol version in Deluxe trim, Luxury being the next step up in terms of kit.

Even in standard form you get a huge touch-screen, reversing camera, different coloured lights inside, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control and wireless phone connection as well as a load of safety features, though it remains to be seen what the build quality is like and how it drives.
The plug-in hybrid option starts at £35,065 but has 204 horsepower and about 56 miles of electric driving on the battery alone. Jaecoo claims the combined range of the battery and engine is an astonishing 745 miles from its 60-litre fuel tank. With the battery depleted, Jaecoo says the 7 still does 47mpg, which is a big step up from many existing plug-ins whose efficiency often drops off a cliff once the battery is drained and you’re running on the petrol engine alone.

In a further attempt to engage consumers Jaecoo is offering a seven-year warranty on its cars, and will join Omoda in 100 national and local dealerships across the country. The brand is aiming the Jaecoo 7 at competitors stretching from the Range Rover Evoque to the BMW X1 and the Renault Austral. We'd say it looks and feels much bigger than all three.
