You read it right… Ford has announced the launch of a fifth member of its Transit light commercial vehicle range: Transit City, an all-electric van aimed squarely at urban businesses. The new van will provide drivers with a maximum range of up to 157 miles, rapid charging from 10-80 per cent in as little as 33 mins, and the ability to carry up to 1,275 kg in a max load volume of up to 8.5 cubic metres. It will first be available in three body styles (L1H1, L2H2 and Chassis Cab), with more planned later in the van’s lifecycle. The van will be available in one well-equipped trim level.
So, while the Transit City’s range may sit towards the lower end of the electric van market, the practicality potential of the vehicle’s 1,200 kg payloads and multiple body styles is very compelling. Urban operators don’t drive hundreds of miles in a day so with good access to charging facilities at home or in depots, Transit City feels very usable. Prices have been hinted at sitting close to the £30K mark, which will keep it competitive. Anyway, here’s everything we know about Ford’s new electric van. As more information comes to light we will add it to this article.

What body styles is the Ford Transit City available in?

The all-electric Ford Transit City will be available in three body styles. The first is the L1H1 Van, the smallest of the three, that is perfect for tight urban roads and capable of carrying three Euro pallets and payloads up to 1,085 kg. Next is the L2H2 Van, a larger version of the van with an 8.5-cubic metre load volume and the capability to carry a payload of up to 1,275 kg. Finally, we have the Chassis Cab which will be great for conversion into box vans for delivery companies, or dropsides for municipal operators and utilities firms.
How far can the Ford Transit City drive on a full charge?

The Ford Transit City can drive up to 157 miles on a full charge. The vehicle features a 56 kWh battery pack to power the 110 kW e-motor that drives the front wheels.
How long does it take to charge the Ford Transit City?

The time it takes to charge the Ford Transit City will be determined by the type of charger you’re using. For example, if you’re using an 11 kW AC charger you’ll be able to charge from 10-80 per cent in approximately 4.5 hours. If you’re using an 87 kW DC charger you’ll be able to charge from 10-80 per cent in approximately 33 minutes… that’s around 31 miles of range in 10 minutes on a fast charger.
What are the Ford Transit City’s service intervals and warranty terms?

The Ford Transit City’s service intervals are every two years or every 25,000 miles… we converted from the quoted 40,000 km. The warranty on all high-voltage components is eight years or 100,000 miles… again we converted from the quoted 160,000 km. Ford Pro expects servicing costs to be 40 per cent lower than those you’d pay keeping an equivalent diesel van on the road.
What trim levels is the Ford Transit City available in?

The Ford Transit City is available in one well-equipped trim level, so everyone who chooses to drive one gets all the kit. Highlights include a heated driver’s seat, a bold 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, keyless start, air conditioning, a rear-view camera and one-pedal driving.
What safety systems does the Ford Transit City come with?

The Ford Transit City will boast a range of safety features perfect for the urban environment. These include automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. Transit City is also supported by Ford Pro Service, which includes 800 specialist Transit Centres across Europe and an expanding fleet of about 500 Mobile Service vans.
When will the Ford Transit City go on sale?

Order books will open for Ford Transit City in Q2 2026 with the first models in Transit Centres at the end of the year.
How big is the Ford Transit City?
The Ford Transit City is roughly the same size as the Ford Transit Custom, which is also available in fully-electric flavour as the E-Transit Custom. While Transit Custom is an all-round medium van aimed at businesses of all types, the Transit City is aimed squarely at urban businesses.
Where is the Ford Transit City being built?
The Ford Transit City is built on an EV platform made by the Ford joint-venture partner Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) and will be manufactured at that company’s facility in Nanchang.
