When it comes to iconic, go-anywhere 4x4s Brits have their Land Rover Defenders and Americans their Jeep Wranglers but, for folk in the parts of the world where the going gets really tough, the Toyota Land Cruiser rules supreme. Sure, it might not be as instantly familiar here as the Defender or Jeep. But in places like Africa, the Middle East and Australia the Land Cruiser is the go-to off-roader, and has been for generations. Now there’s a new one, and it’s back in the UK.
We’ll see how it fares on British roads in due course. But, to set the scene, Rory wants to know why it’s so popular in parts of the world where reliability can literally be a matter of life or death, not mere inconvenience. On the basis that, while it might be annoying to break down beside a motorway in the UK, you’re unlikely to be eaten by a lion. Which is why Rory and co-presenter Alex are in South Africa to really put the new Land Cruiser to the test and see if it can handle the local terrain and wildlife. Join them for a drive through scenery as beautiful as it is tough. And a new twist on rock, paper scissors we still feel Rory needs to explain properly. Hopefully you enjoy the video enough to tip Rory a like and feel free to join the chat in the comments below.
