There’s an all-new Bentley coming and it’s called the Torcal. And, officially, that’s all we know about it for now. Other than it’s named after a rock feature in Spain. And the name is a twist (see what we did there) on the word ‘torque’, which is to say the measurement of turning force an engine or, perhaps, electric motor delivers to the wheels. Leading us to speculate this will, in all likelihood, be Bentley’s first all-electric car. Begging the question, can it do a https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/news/new-ferrari-luce-coming-soon-specs-price-and-release-info Ferrari Luce … without ‘doing a Ferrari Luce’ and breaking the hearts of its traditional fanbase?

• We don’t know where the Torcal will sit in the Bentley line-up, other than to say it joins the existing Continental GT, Bentayga and Flying Spur

• No information yet on the features, but expect lashings of leather, luxury and bespoke customisation

• We’ll have to wait and see on things like power, range and all the rest but – given the name – it’s safe to assume the traditional torque-heavy Bentley character will be there

• The Torcal will be officially revealed in late September • Cost? Probably lots…

Design and models available

Not much to be going on here, bar the single photograph you see at the top of the page. We’re clutching at straws but it looks more like a hatchback style rear end, so we’ll work on the assumption the Torcal will be some manner of SUV or crossover. Given Bentley shares tech within the wider VW group with Porsche – and its new boss is a former Porsche R&D chief – we’d speculate it will likely share some DNA with the all-electric Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe we’ve been driving recently.

Interior and tech

Again, wait and see. But while you do so read up on some of the inspiration and influences Bentley draws upon when designing the interiors of its cars in our exclusive behind-the-scenes feature. Whatever it looks like, expect an exquisitely tasteful combination of materials both modern and traditional. With – literally – that unmistakeable smell of opulence we’ve enjoyed in all Bentleys to date. A smell of leather, of polished wood and, yes, of money.

Batteries/range or engines

If the Torcal does indeed share motors and batteries with the Cayenne range expect some very impressive numbers, top versions of the Porsche delivering well over 1,000 horsepower off the bat. Certainly, the silence and instant torque of electric power is an easier emotional fit for Bentley than it is for Ferrari and its controversial Luce.

Price and release

More when we know, the Torcal making its official debut at the end of September.

What other cars from Bentley are due this year?

The Torcal is likely the talk of the town, at least in Bentley terms!

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

We’ll have to see, but assuming the Torcal is indeed a super-premium electric car it’ll be on the same shopping lists as cars like the Ferrari Luce and much-hyped Jaguar Type 01.
