Muc-Off Big Bore Lite tubeless valves
Ditching inner tubes can transform the way your e-bike handles rough terrain – these new ones from Muc-Off make life with tubeless easy

While many e-bikers will only be bothered how their tyres stay inflated when they’re suddenly not, for keener riders the switch from inner tubes to so-called ‘tubeless’ set-ups is a no brainer. Especially so if you ride off-road on fancy e-mountain bikes like the Specialized Turbo Levo SL we had in on test recently.
Why? Well, going tubeless means you can run your tyres a little softer for improved grip in the turns without risking the annoying ‘snake bite’ punctures when an inner tube gets pinched between the wheel rim and a rock or root. The sealant in the tyre can also fix holes from thorns and other sharp objects without you even realising. Fewer punctures, more riding. Win!

If your bike isn’t already set up for tubeless the conversion can be a complicated and sometimes messy process, at least until you get the hang of it. These snazzy new ‘Big Bore’ valves from Muc-Off make it a lot easier, though.
By replacing the conventional valve core with a dial-controlled switch you can get air into the tyre faster, helping ‘seat’ the tyre on the rim. Something we achieved with a conventional pump, and no need to resort to CO2 canisters, airlines or other bodges. Over the longer term the big bore design means the valves won’t clog with sealant like regular cores, making adjusting your pressures for different terrain easier and more accurate. True, they’re not cheap. But it’s hopefully a fit and forget upgrade you’ll come to appreciate over the longer term. The fact they come in a range of sizes and snazzy anodised colours is just the cherry on top!
