Coming Soon: Cupra Tavascan

Cupra has proven its knack for putting a sporty twist on shared VW technology with its ID.3-based Born electric hot hatch, this new Tavascan pulling the same trick its dynamic reinvention of the ID.5 and the brand’s arrival into the fashionable coupe-SUV crossover market. With the likes of its VW, Audi and Skoda relatives and competition from the Tesla Model Y to name but a few it’s not short of rivals, either. But Cupra hopes a range of powertrains with 286 horsepower single-motor or 340 horsepower dual-motor options will cover all bases.

The Tavascan’s sporty looks and youthful spirit certainly fit with Cupra’s ambitions to appeal to a younger crowd, this expressed with design flourishes like illuminated logos front and rear, a full-width LED lighting strip at the back and cool microfibre upholstery on the seats. Also on the inside you’ll find a 15-inch screen powering the infotainment, a 12-speaker sound system and plenty of suitably sporty design cues. These include race-inspired bucket seats and a neat central spine in contrasting silver trim that pans out in broad sweeps across the dash and doors.

Although more detailed information on trim levels and performance stats for the Tavascan are yet to be announced Cupra has indicated it will sit somewhere between mainstream and premium pricing, slotting in between VW and Audi in the family pecking order.
In just a few short years Cupra has certainly come a long way, realising the ambition of CEO Wayne Griffiths to find a path to electrification that is anything but "conventional", in his words. To that end the Tavascan looks like a welcome addition to the range, with the official launch in the first half of 2024 and deliveries from the summer onwards. Watch this space for more.
