Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood has confirmed the Plug-in van grant is being extended for another year to April 2026 with the aim of helping more van drivers and businesses transition to zero emission vehicles.
The extension means van drivers and operators can continue to receive grants of up to £2,500 when buying small vans weighing up to 2.5 tonnes and up to £5,000 for larger vans weighing up to 4.25 tonnes. A further source of relief for many businesses across the UK is the news that the Government is also making it easier to switch to zero emission vans (that are often heavier than their petrol/diesel equivalents despite being the same size) – by removing additional training requirements currently in place for zero emission vans and not petrol/diesel vans.

How Does The Plug-In Van Grant Work?

The Plug-in van grant effectively works as a discount on the purchase price of an electric van. The grant is available to customers at the point of purchase meaning a consumer does not have to go through a grant application process.

How Does An Electric Van Qualify For The Plug-In Van Grant?

To qualify as eligible for the Plug-in van grant, a van must have a 60-mile or more zero emission driving range and produce less than 50g/km CO2 emissions.

How Much Money Is The Plug-In Van Grant Worth Per Van?

The Plug-in van grant is broken down like this:
- Vans weighing less than 2.5 tonnes receive a 35% of the purchase price reduction up to £2,500. - Vans weighing from 2.5 to 4.25 tonnes will receive a 35% of the purchase price reduction up to £5,000. These reductions are applied at the point of sale meaning a consumer does not need to apply for it, you just get it.
