Ford’s experience making car-derived vans, most notably the hugely successful Fiesta Van, is now being poured into a new vehicle… the electric Ford Explorer Van. As you might expect, this new small van uses the Ford Explorer SUV as its base vehicle and brings everything that gained it a four-star Autotrader review in car form to the van market. Here’s what we know so far:

What are the key highlights of the new Ford Explorer Van?

The new Ford Explorer Van will provide all of the equipment the base vehicle offers with the conversion to a commercial vehicle. The back seats have been replaced with a 1.23 cubic metre load space capable of carrying a payload of up to 650 kg. A maximum all-electric range of up to 373 miles will be provided by the vehicle’s battery pack, and you can choose from a rear-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain. Various equipment packs will be available to enhance the vehicle for specific use cases, such as sanitation stations, beacons, lamps, cargo nets and more. There’s even a wheel pack to replace the alloy wheels from the car version with steel wheels featuring torque indicators on the nuts to give it a more commercial and durable look.

How is the Ford Explorer converted into a van?

The Ford Explorer Van goes through the same conversion process as many other car-derived vans. The back seats are removed and the resulting space levelled off. A bulkhead or cargo net is installed behind the front seats and the rear windows blacked out. Lashing points and other cargo-securing fixtures are added… and that’s the basic process in a nutshell.

When does the Ford Explorer Van launch in the UK?

The Ford Explorer Van will make its official debut at the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Show and it's on sale now for fleet customers.

How much will the Ford Explorer Van cost?

The new Ford Explorer Van is likely to cost around £40K ex VAT. This is a fully HMRC-compliant conversion to an N1 commercial vehicle meaning it will be treated as such for tax purposes.
