The sustained demand for SUVs means there’s an option out there for pretty much everyone these days. Many opt for the best family SUVs or a small SUV, while electric SUVs are growing in popularity too.
But some drivers are still drawn to pure power, with SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus Performante, DBX 707 and Ferrari Purosangue drawing legions of fans to argue over which is the most powerful. And the winner of that debate? It’s the seemingly ordinary Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. While it may look like a family car, it actually houses a monstrous 6.2-litre V8 Hellcat engine, producing up to 719 horsepower to make it the most powerful SUV in its class.

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat at a glance

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, brutal acceleration accentuated by a frankly ridiculous supercharger whine. It can complete a quarter-mile in around 12 seconds.
While it may not be as fast as some rivals like the Ferrari Purosangue, it does offer exceptional performance at a significantly lower price point. The performance is the headline, but the Durango backs that up with practicality. It can tow nearly four tonnes, and offers six seats as standard, with an option for a seven-seat configuration. The interior features a 10-inch display, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a decent selection of connectivity options. The handling is surprisingly composed for its size, with the inclusion of a helper spring in the suspension system balancing comfort and stiffness to reduce body roll. That said, the Durango SRT Hellcat does weigh 2.5 tonnes, so it lacks the agility of some competitors. So, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is one of the most powerful SUVs on the market, but is it one of the best? Watch Rory’s film for the final verdict, and let us know what you think in the comments.
