The DB12 is Aston Martin doing what it does best, which is to say stylish coupes with big engines and a pleasing balance of classy luxury and swagger. Now it’s just … more so. As Rory has been finding out with a drive in the new and improved DB12 S.
But is it improved enough? Sure, it’s got all the stuff you’d expect with a visual makeover of (thankfully subtly) more aggressive aero bits like a new front splitter and fixed rear wing, along with new bonnet vents and hand-made ‘S’ badges on the side. Enough that when you pull up alongside a regular DB12 people are going to realise yours is a little more potent, which is all that will matter to some people.
Thing is, when we say ‘a little’ more potent that’s exactly it. An increase in power to 700 horsepower sounds great. But that’s only 20 horsepower more than before, while the 0-62mph is only 0.1 seconds quicker. Hardly earth-shattering.
Is there more to this car than some carbon bits and marginal gains in power and performance? Join Rory for a drive as he attempts to find out.
