We’ve talked previously about the growing trend for restomods, which is to say older cars restored into literally better-than-new condition for a combination of classic looks and modern driving manners. It’s been a big thing in the Porsche world for a long time, Rory recently enjoying a drive in an incredible £750,000 911 reimagined by British firm Theon Design while others have done similar with everything from classic Minis to old Alfa Romeos. All of which sell for big money.
And now Yorkshire-based Land Rover specialist Twisted is doing the same with the classic first-generation Range Rover, this spectacular TRRC combining 70s style with thundering V8 performance and custom-built quality. And it’s yours for a chunky sounding £350,000, plus taxes.

The original 1970 Range Rover inspiring it was arguably the world’s first luxury SUV, and its influence lives on to this day. It was on sale in form or another through to mid-90s, this Twisted blending the three-door body and 70s colours of the early cars with the harder-edged look of the later ones to winning effect. Each will be custom-built to the spec of the buyer, with just 12 cars a year expected to leave Twisted’s base in North Yorkshire. With a starting price of £350,000 this level of bespoke quality is a big step on from that of the 70s originals, Twisted’s long experience of creating luxurious, high-performance OG Defenders all channelled into this new project. As passionate Land Rover fans you can rest assured this is a lot more than just a set of big wheels and some shiny paint as well, with every last detail sweated over with near-obsessive focus by team of genuine enthusiasts, Twisted boss Charles Fawcett himself inspired by the custom Range Rover his dad ran back in the 80s.
It’ll be fast as well as cool, power coming from a Chevrolet supplied 6.2-litre V8 engine with 500 horsepower driving through a modern eight-speed automatic gearbox and (thankfully) uprated brakes and suspension. This combination of off-road attitude and hand-crafted luxury certainly puts a fresh spin on the idea but having enjoyed Twisted Defenders in the past we’re confident it will more than pass muster alongside any equivalently extravagant restomod 911, and turn heads for all the right reasons. Form an orderly queue!
