For once, there’s a chance to get ahead of the game on new-car waiting lists, as the eagerly awaited pure electric Range Rover opens its waiting list. Although there’s no word on how long it will be before the first Range Rover Electric is delivered, potential buyers can now sign up ready to pre-order their vehicle when orders open. Given recent delivery times for Range Rovers have been up to two years, fingers crossed for a swift arrival.
The current Range Rover is already available as a petrol or diesel mild hybrid, and as a petrol plug-in hybrid which we enjoyed living with recently. JLR has, meanwhile, been teasing an electric Range Rover for a few years.
In its latest release it has shared some tantalising close ups of details, including rose gold coloured gills on the front doors and EV wheel badges. The rest of the car looks similar to the current model. Despite EVs not relying on a front grille for cooling in the same way as a traditional vehicle, it looks as though the Range Rover Electric will retain one, keeping the familiar Range Rover styling. We will be watching this space closely to see how the Range Rover Electric looks in full and what features will be on offer when it hits the roads in 2024.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) also promises that the Range Rover Electric will have the same level of all-terrain ability you would expect from any Range Rover, and claims it has set a new standard for luxury electric SUVs. It has highlighted that the Range Rover Electric has been designed in the UK and will be manufactured in Solihull using batteries built in its new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. JLR also aims to make the Range Rover Electric the quietest and most refined Range Rover yet, whilst retaining its renowned towing and wading capabilities. We look forward to seeing how the Range Rover Electric will fare when really put to work and how much this will impact the battery range.
JLR has is currently testing physical prototypes in the most extreme environments all over the world before it starts full production. People joining the waiting list will be first in the queue to pre-order their Range Rover Electric when sales officially start.
