We’re about to spend the next few months living with a Jaguar i-Pace electric car. It’s getting on a bit now... so does it still stack up?

The Jaguar i-Pace was supposed to be the start of a whole new era of electric cars for the company. But despite being released six years ago, it remains the only all-electric Jaguar you can buy. And it’s about to be killed off, with an appointment at the big EV recycling factory in the sky already made for 2025.
So, we’ve decided to live with one for the next few months to see how it compares to the myriad other electric SUVs that have turned up since; it’s easy to forget that when the i-Pace arrived in 2018 it only really had the Tesla Model X as a similar, SUV-shaped electric alternative. The electric SUV genre has mushroomed in recent times. Anyone considering an i-Pace today could also consider an Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron, the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, the BMW iX, the BMW iX3, the Genesis GV60, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and all the Mercedes EQ stuff: A, B, C, E and S. There are more, but you get the idea. Oh, but there’s also Tesla’s best-selling car, the Model Y. And the new Porsche Macan, now a fully electric model and a proper exciting one at that. You still get the idea. But, as you’ll see in our video, the i-Pace still makes a lot of sense. It looks as fresh as the day that the first one rolled out of the factory, and it just FEELS uniquely…well, Jaguar. Unlike a lot of modern EVs, the interior isn’t an ode to minimalism, and the driving experience is more a sports saloon than a tall-riding SUV. The 292-mile battery range still looks great, too. And yet, Jaguar is reportedly about to hit reset on its EV plans and come up with a handful of brand-new EVs that go in a different direction – even further upmarket, we’re told. So, if you are thinking about an electric family car, is it worth having a look at the i-Pace before Jaguar-branded EVs almost certainly hit new price heights? Alex asks that question in the video, as well as talking through how the i-Pace feels in the context of the modern electric SUV market. Have a watch.
