Alex Legouix takes a first look at the all new RS5 to see how hybrid technology is reshaping one of Audi’s most iconic performance vehicles

The RS5 has always combined everyday usability with legendary performance. Now the latest generation marks a new era for RS models, with the RS5 becoming the brand’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid. In this video, Alex takes a closer look at how it combines electric driving with everyday versatility to deliver a new interpretation of the true RS experience.
The RS5 hybrid powertrain now pairs a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Together, they power the vehicle from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds, making it quicker than the previous petrol version. There is also an evolution of Audi’s Quattro system, featuring a clever system branded Dynamic Torque Control to enhance agility, stability and traction in various driving situations. From the outside, the RS5 builds on the regular A5’s style but with a more muscular stance complemented by distinctive RS features such as 21-inch wheels, darkened Matrix LED headlights and a three-dimensional RS honeycomb grille. Inside, there’s plenty of technology, from the driver-orientated layout to the panoramic infotainment screen featuring instruments inspired by motorsport.
