While you can add Mulliner personalisation to any model from Bentley, the Bentley Batur
is an exquisite stand-alone model built by Bentley’s in-house coachbuilder. Each Mulliner is bespoke and, even with a £2m price tag, all 18 of the Batur coupes sold out immediately. Now Bentley brings us a convertible Batur, this time limiting the production to just 16, so if you fancy one you’d better be quick. • The third bespoke coachbuilt modern Mulliner following the Bacalar and the Batur coupe • Just 16 Batur Convertibles will be made • The last 12-cylinder Bentley, it will have 750 horsepower • The cars will be built at Bentley’s Crewe factory in the Mulliner workshop • Expected to cost over £2m

Design and models available

Bentley customers will be able to fully customise their Batur Convertible working with the Mulliner design teams. Customers can choose the colours and materials used on nearly any surface, so in Bentley’s own words they will only be limited by their imagination, making each car unique. For some inspiration Mulliner has created the Batur Convertible Car #0 pictured here in two-tone bright ‘Vermillion’ orange combining gloss and satin finishes. You’ll also be able to have hand-painted graphics added and pick from an array of finishes for the front grille.

Interior and tech

A key feature of the Batur Convertible is the folding roof. This tucks away in 19 seconds and can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 30mph. Again, there’s more chance for personalisation with the roof materials and the ‘airbridge’ behind the seats. Like its coupe equivalent you can expect this interior to feel suitably expensive in look, touch and even smell. Mulliner has collaborated with jewellery designers for the finishing touches, and you can have 3D printed rose gold for things like the driving mode selector and start/stop button. As with the exterior, you’ll be able to use different textures and fabrics to upholster the seats just to your liking.

Engines

The Batur Convertible will the last Bentley to use the 750 horsepower six-litre engine. This signature W12 engine is due to end production in the summer of this year. This will draw over 20 years of history to a close as Bentley moves into an electric era. The Batur convertible will use the same 3D-printed titanium exhaust as the coupe and it should sound all the better with the roof folded down.

Price and release

We expect production of the Batur Convertibles to start soon with each one taking several months to complete. There’s no official price list, but based on the asking price of the coupe, you won’t be getting any change out of £2m.

What other cars from Bentley are due this year?

Bentley recently showcased the coachbuilding prowess of Mulliner at the Beijing Motor Show displaying a coupe Batur alongside bespoke Mulliner commissions of the Bentayga, Flying Spur and Continental GTC. Over the coming years we expect to see more electrified Bentleys in both plug-in hybrid and pure electric form.

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

Bentley will say that there’s no real comparison to a Mulliner, however for those looking to join a similarly exclusive owners club should keep an eye out for limited edition models from other luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and Ferrari.
