The top three brands in the running may all be in foreign ownership now, but they’re also classic British names, reflecting a patriotic streak in the country’s car buyers. After a rocky recent history it’s great to have MG rebuilding its place as a household name on British roads and the brand is clearly held in great affection. Jaguar is another classic brand with a loyal following and some great products, including the I-Pace EV. But the winner this year is Mini, a brand that’s always plucked the heartstrings, from its Swinging 60s origins through to the present day.

Over to them. “The way it looks and feels – people always look at it!” said one. “It wasn’t a practical purchase,” admitted another, “but I wanted something fun to drive and which can move when the mood takes me. Roof down, foot to the floor – can’t beat the feeling!”
