With 24 brands fighting it out for the top prize, this was a fiercely contested award.

The top three brands in the running may all be in foreign ownership now, but they’re also classic British names, reflecting a patriotic streak in the country’s car buyers. After a rocky recent history it’s great to have MG rebuilding its place as a household name on British roads and the brand is clearly held in great affection. Jaguar is another classic brand with a loyal following and some great products, including the I-Pace EV.

But the winner this year is Mini, a brand that’s always plucked the heartstrings, from its Swinging 60s origins through to the present day.
Why do owners love their Minis so much? Over to them. “The way it looks and feels – people always look at it!” said one. “It wasn’t a practical purchase,” admitted another, “but I wanted something fun to drive and which can move when the mood takes me. Roof down, foot to the floor – can’t beat the feeling!”
