The petrol-powered Macan has long been a best-seller in the luxury SUV market, and one of Porsche’s best-sellers overall, for years now.
Will it be able to replicate its luck in the electric vehicle market? Rory Reid finds out, as he takes the new Porsche Macan Electric for a spin.

Acceleration and speed
The Macan Electric is offered in various configurations, including rear-wheel drive, the all-wheel-drive Macan 4, and the powerful Macan 4S. And that top-tier Macan Turbo pushes the limits of performance with 639 horsepower, outperforming the petrol version by 200 horsepower.
Acceleration is exhilarating, with the Turbo hitting 0-62 mph in just 3.3 seconds, faster than the petrol version by over a second.

Impressive range and fast charging technology
Though electric vehicles are often criticised for slower refuelling times, Porsche has equipped the Macan Electric with a large 100kWh battery, offering a range of up to 400 miles in the entry-level version. Charging at a rapid 270 kW (where available) means you can conceivably get from zero to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes, making long trips much more feasible.
Sleek interiors and exteriors
On the outside, the Macan Electric maintains Porsche's distinctive design but throws in some sleek updates. The quad-element DRLs, active Matrix LED headlights, and dynamic body contours add a sporty, futuristic appeal. The electric version also offers a front trunk (frunk), providing an above average 84 litres of usable storage.
The interior champions Porsche’s legacy of luxury, with high-quality materials and state-of-the-art tech. The new digital driver displays are clear and modern, and the infotainment system has been significantly improved, featuring highly responsive Android-based software. The Macan Electric also offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and even a dedicated app store to customise the driving experience with apps like YouTube, Netflix, and more.

Porsche Macan Electric cost
The Macan Electric Turbo starts at around £95,000. With options like larger wheels, rear axle steering, and custom paint jobs, the price can climb well over £100,000. However, Porsche also offers a more affordable entry-level version starting at £70,000, and the petrol GTS variant for around £75,000 for those who still prefer the internal combustion experience.
