Renault has been smashing it out of the park with its electric cars with the Renault 5 winning awards left, right and centre – including New Car of the Year at our Drivers’ Choice Awards 2026 – and the Renault 4 offering the same ingredients in a more practical package. Then, there’s the upcoming Twingo which is as cute as a button, but what about Renault’s other EVs? With all the buzz around the retro-inspired Renaults, the Megane E-Tech hasn’t had the attention it deserves. We really enjoyed living with the Megane E-Tech a few years back and now Renault has given its Volkswagen ID.3 rival a refresh with a sharper look, more tech, and a new battery. With this comes an improved range of just over 300 miles and eligibility for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. Will this be enough to propel the Megane into the limelight?
Here’s everything we know about the updated Megane E-Tech for 2027...
- The Megane E-Tech is a mid-size electric hatchback sitting between the Renault 5 and the Scenic E-Tech in Renault’s electric range
- It gains a Google Gemini AI assistant, faster charging and upgraded wireless phone charger
- Up to 306 miles of range
- Available to order now
- Starting from £28,245 once the £3,750 Electric Car Grant is applied

Interior and tech
Inside, the Megane keeps its Google-powered infotainment, which is good news as Renault’s system is one of the most intuitive in the business and now upgraded with a Gemini AI assistant. The layout remains familiar with a 12-inch central touch-screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and features like a ventilated wireless phone charger and a 360-degree camera come as standard.
There will be five levels of regenerative braking, including ‘one-pedal’ mode controlled with flappy paddles behind the steering wheel. Renault has also added a new ‘smart’ driving mode which adapts to your driving styles and there’s now a driver recognition feature automatically adjusting to your preferred settings. Like many new EVs, the Megane has Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allowing you to charge other electrical devices using the car’s battery with the help of an adapter accessory.
