The new Jaguar hasn’t even been officially revealed yet but it’s already been through three names, first appearing as the Type 00 Concept, then as the GT and, most recently, the4-Door GT. You even voted it your most anticipated car last year without even knowing what it looked like or would be called! Now Jaguar has at last settled on a name for when it finally does go on sale, and it’s time to say hello to the Jaguar Type 01.
While it’s yet to be shown without its pre-production camouflage we’ve already been lucky enough to ride in the new Type 01, first in the passenger seat and then, most recently, from behind the wheel. We’ve even had a sneak peek at what the production car will look like when it goes on sale, but we’re not allowed to tell you about that yet. Sorry, but we’ll tease and say you won’t forget the first time you clap eyes on one out on the public road.
For now the Type 01 will continue doing the rounds and showing a little ankle from under its disguise, its next public outing being at the Monaco E-Prix. This assuming you haven’t already seen one out testing on the roads near Jaguar’s HQ in Warwickshire, as we did recently.
And what’s in the name? Well, the ‘Type’ prefix harks celebrates classic models like the racing C-type and legendary E-type sports car, the ‘0’ stands for zero emissions and the ‘1’ signifies this being the first of a new generation of Jaguars. With over 1,000 horsepower from its three-motor electric powertrain we know from our brief drive that it’s quick, and even in its prototype disguise the proportions are dramatic with a long bonnet and low-slung cabin with seating for four. The interior of the one we tried was still hidden under large sheets of felt to hide the look but it’s safe to assume it’ll be as luxurious as you’d expect.
We’ll tell you more as soon as we’re able!
