Volvo launches sporty R-Design version of XC90
New trim will sit between existing Momentum and Inscription models in the SUV range
- Sporty makeover includes 20-inch alloys, silver door mirrors and black grille
- Available with D5 diesel and T6 petrol engines, as well as T8 hybrid
- On sale now, with prices starting at £49,785
Volvo has unveiled the R-Design version of its XC90 SUV. This new model will offer buyers a car with a more sporty look and feel than the existing versions.
From the outside, the R-Design stands out from other XC90s thanks to its 20-inch alloy wheels, silver-effect door mirrors, gloss black mesh front grille and tinted rear windows. Inside, meanwhile, it has leather sports seats (with both front seats electrically operated), a 12.3-inch information display and a leather-trimmed steering wheel, as well as sports pedals, a black headlining and upgraded interior lighting. There’s even an exclusive R-Design leather-clad remote key fob.

This is on top of the kit that comes with Momentum trim, which includes sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and a powered tailgate. Standard safety equipment includes the City Safety autonomous braking system, as well as driver alert control with lane departure warning.
The new sporty models also come with Drive Mode Settings and Adjustable Steering Force, which allow you to choose between different settings for the engine, transmission, steering and the optional air suspension. In the XC90 range, these R-Design versions will sit between the existing Momentum and Inscription models.
