In our new video, Rory takes a close look at the new Aston Martin Valen, a limited-edition V12 special created by Aston Martin’s Q division. Valen (which means strong or powerful) is the latest in a line of dramatic bespoke Aston Martin models including the Victor, Valour and Valiant.

The most powerful front-engined V12 Aston Martin yet, the Valen uses a twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine to produce 850hp and 1,000Nm of torque. It should accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.1 seconds and go on to an electronically limited top speed of 214mph. Drive modes include wet, sport, sport plus, track and individual settings, with throttle response changing depending on the selected mode.

Impressive numbers, but almost as impressive is the car’s design, which includes a mix of painted and exposed carbon surfaces, along with large vents, angular cut-outs and a prominent front splitter. The carbon body means the Valen is 110kg lighter than other vehicles using the same V12 platform, and an optional lightweight pack adds components such as lighter suspension arms, knuckles and chassis bolts, saving a further 17kg.

Much has gone into making this an aerodynamic car, with 21-inch magnesium wheels, wider rear tyres, carbon side sills, functional side vents and sawtooth vortex generators designed to help manage airflow and generate additional downforce.

There are a couple of standout design elements to this car.

First is the satin Andromeda Red finish, which includes a ChromaFlare colour-shifting effect blending red, copper, gold and blue for a shade that changes depending on the viewing angle.

Then, the rear of the car features a dramatic use of negative space, exposed rear wheels, sloping rear bumper, pronounced diffuser, and light bar and multiple exhaust outlets. It’s a beast of a back.

Watch the full video for a detailed breakdown of the work that went into this.

Only 150 Valens are expected to be built, with an estimated price of around £1.5 million. Would you get one, and if so why?
