More about Mark Nichol
Mark’s career in the car industry began in 2005 when an obsession with car magazines, a love of writing, and a very early mid-life crisis prompted him to re-train as a journalist. He quit his marketing job, started a degree in Journalism at Sunderland University and set about getting work placements. During his third year, one of those placements landed him a job on the News & Features desk at Auto Express. He still hasn’t finished his degree.
Auto Express meant moving to London, away from his wife and new-born son in Newcastle. And so when an opportunity came to join Car Enthusiast Editorial Agency and be based back home, near Ant & Dec, he took it. Over the next few years he wrote for dozens of national and international news and automotive publications. During this time he also began to amass a large collection of body art, becoming well-known in the car industry as “that Geordie with all the tattoos.” This was before it become more common to have no tattoos.
After a two-year stint as Senior Press Officer at Volkswagen Group, in 2015 he joined Honest John to lead its video production. He scripted, presented, filmed and edited the entirety of the company’s YouTube output, twice winning recognition at the prestigious Newspress car industry awards. Mark’s is known for its uniquely engaging, witty and informative presenting style.
Mark loves cars but is most interested in making them approachable and appealing to non-enthusiasts; it’s easier to make a Ferrari seem exciting than a family hatchback, right? He joined Auto Trader in 2023 as a Senior Content Producer, creating onsite features and reviews, and assisting the YouTube video team.
Outside of cars he’s a songwriter who plays drums and guitar, is a keen gamer, and an all-too-occasional runner. He owns a Nissan Figaro, a Porsche Macan and a Pomeranian dog that loves to ruin them.
