Early December is a better time for dreaming of motorbikes than actually riding them. And if you were spending the winter evenings consulting maps and atlases with a big tour in mind for next summer Triumph has just announced the perfect tool for the job in the shape of the new Tiger Sport 800 Tour.
Part of a promised wave of 29 new models, updates and fresh variants, the Tour builds on the success of the Tiger Sport 800 and its winning combination of the smaller 660 version’s accessibility with the excitement of its bigger 115 horsepower triple. Having lived with one for a month we can see why it’s gone down such a storm, too.

Priced at £12,895 the Tour is nearly two grand more than the base Tiger Sport 800 but comes fully equipped to go the distance with a host of extras. These include a full three-piece luggage set, hand guards and heated grips to keep the chill off your mitts, the Comfort seat (and backrest on the topbox for your pillion) and a centre stand. A quick trip into the Triumph configurator reveals just adding these items alone would send the price of a regular Tiger Sport 800 over £13,000, which helps put that starting price into context. Tyre pressure monitoring is another standard feature added to the Tour, and a worthwhile addition for long trips when loaded up.
While it can’t match obvious rivals like the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ for tech like radar cruise control, matrix LED lighting or automated shifting the Tiger Sport 800 Tour is the Yamaha’s equal for performance and riding style, as well as being the best part of three grand cheaper. It’s still a grand less than the regular Tracer 9 GT it resembles more closely in spec, too.

The rest of the bike is per the standard Tiger Sport 800, and no worse for it. That means the same 798cc 115 horsepower triple with its signature combination of low-end flexibility and top-end revviness, cornering rider aids, quickshifter and touring-friendly adjustable suspension you can tune to the load on the bike.
The Tour is available as of now, with first deliveries expected early next year.
