Everything we know about the 2027 Volkswagen Grand California

​Volkswagen campervans are iconic, and the biggest of the company’s off-the-shelf campers – the Grand California – is getting some upgrades and a new special edition. The updates to the Grand California include a new interior and optional solar panels to help off-grid campers be more self-sufficient. And the Dune Special Edition adds further upgrades to the base vehicle.

UK order books have opened on the upgraded Grand California campervan and the Dune Special Edition model – here’s everything we know.

What upgrades is the Grand California getting?

Aside from a starting price reduction to just under £69K (ex VAT), the Grand California has received some upgrades. On the inside, surfaces are now finished in Atami Bamboo trim, with a matching wood-effect floor covering, and additional storage solutions and a foldout table have been added.

For off-grid campers, fitted solar panels are now available as an optional extra included as part of a new ‘Off-Grid’ package. This includes two 40Ah LiFePO4 batteries, which apparently provide 40 per cent more usable battery capacity meaning you can brave the elements without plugging in for longer.

What is the Dune Special Edition of the Volkswagen Grand California?

Joining the rest of the UK’s Grand California campervan range is the Dune Special Edition. For £1K more than a standard model and starting at just under £70K (ex VAT), the Dune Special Edition comes with an Ascot Grey paint job and a contrast black grained bumper (unique to this model).

In addition to the Grand California’s standard features, the Dune Special Edition adds several further upgrades, including:

• 17-inch Lismore black alloys
• Black grained bumpers
• ‘Dune’ decals on the exterior
• Climatronic air conditioning
• Ambient lighting
• LED headlights with auto headlight control
• Separate LED Daytime Running Lights
